Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi revealed that he conducted a thorough inquiry into pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi before agreeing to his daughter Ansha’s marriage to the fast bowler.
During the ‘Main Hoon Karachi’ session at the International Urdu Conference in Karachi, Shahid shared the careful considerations that went into the decision. He explained, “No father would hand over his daughter’s life without due thought. Shaheen’s upbringing was impressive, and while our families lost touch after we moved to Karachi, Shaheen’s coaches always spoke highly of him.”
Emphasizing the importance of the inquiry, Shahid added that ensuring compatibility was key for a successful relationship and for building a strong future generation.
In a lighthearted moment, Shahid dismissed the idea of being called a grandfather, joking, “Maybe after my youngest daughter marries and has children, I’ll consider it.”
Shahid, who has five daughters, noted that Ansha is his second-born. She and Shaheen were married in 2023, with their nikkah taking place in February in Karachi and the wedding celebration held later that September. The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Aaliyar, in August 2024. Shahid’s eldest daughter, Aqsa, is also married.
