The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Institute of Child Health and Children’s Hospital, which began construction in 2012, remains unfinished after 12 years. Initially estimated at a cost of Rs 2.2 billion and expected to be completed by 2015, the project has been plagued by delays due to a lack of funding, with costs now soaring to around Rs 8 billion.
Located in Hayatabad, Peshawar, the hospital was intended to offer specialized treatment and research on children’s diseases. Health experts stress that had the hospital been completed, it would have served as a vital resource for both treatment and research. However, prolonged delays have forced parents to seek care at private hospitals.
While similar facilities are available in other provinces, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continues to lack a dedicated hospital for children’s specialized care. The ongoing setbacks have left children in the region without critical healthcare resources.
