Saba Qamar, UNICEF Pakistan’s National Ambassador for children’s rights, recently met with German Consul General Dr. Rudiger Lotz to discuss critical issues regarding children’s rights and environmental challenges in Pakistan.
The meeting highlighted the importance of involving young people in addressing these concerns. Qamar emphasized that engaging the youth is essential to resolving both children’s rights and environmental issues.
Dr. Lotz expressed Germany’s strong support for children’s rights and acknowledged Pakistan’s progress in this area. He also emphasized the global significance of environmental issues, such as global warming, stressing the need for collective action to tackle it.
A major topic of discussion was the “Make Karachi Green” campaign, spearheaded by the German Consulate General in Karachi to promote tree planting and raise environmental awareness. Anja Klos, Consul at the German Consulate General, briefed Qamar on the initiative, which aims to teach schoolchildren about the importance of trees and climate change.
To support the campaign, Dr. Lotz presented tree seeds to Qamar and encouraged the people of Karachi to participate in the efforts.
Germany has consistently supported UNICEF’s work in Pakistan, helping to advance both children’s rights and environmental sustainability.
