PTI Chairman Imran Khan has suggested replacing the planned protest with celebrations if ongoing talks with the government yield positive results, his lawyer Faisal Chaudhry revealed after meeting him at Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi.
Chaudhry quoted Khan saying, “If there’s progress in negotiations by tomorrow, we’ll celebrate instead of protesting.” He clarified that this would be only the second protest call since the May 9 events that targeted state installations.
The PTI chief emphasized that the decision to cancel protests hinges on the government meeting their demands, dismissing claims of spending Rs1 billion on demonstrations as baseless. He also stressed that protests are essential given the limited options left, highlighting the role of political parties in uniting the nation.
Khan noted that talks would only proceed with those wielding actual power, giving the negotiations until tomorrow to yield results. He also expressed frustration over restrictions on rallies and reiterated his commitment to peaceful demonstrations. “Both sides need to make an effort for meaningful progress,” he concluded.
