The Sindh government has designated Karachi airport and its surrounding areas as a “red zone” following consultations with law enforcement agencies, citing heightened security concerns during the International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2024.
With IDEAS 2024 underway, District Malir police confirmed restricted access to the red zone, allowing entry only for passengers traveling to or from the city and individuals on official duty.
To bolster security, checkpoints have been established at five key locations near the airport, including Star Gate, CAA Club, Madame Bridge, Model Morr, and ASF Road Rangers Post. Police and Rangers personnel will remain on-site 24/7, conducting thorough checks of vehicles and individuals to counter potential threats.
Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport well in advance to complete security formalities without delays. Those traveling to the airport must carry their flight tickets and national identity cards to ensure a smooth security process.
Residents of nearby areas, including the M9 motorway, Malir Cantt, Memon Goth, and Model Colony, are urged to use Sharea Faisal and Malir Halt instead of routes passing through the red zone. Similarly, passengers traveling from Drigh Road to Malir Cantt or Model Colony are advised to use Malir Halt instead of Star Gate or CAA Club Road.
