The students’ union at Karachi University has been protesting for the seventh consecutive day over various issues, including fee hikes, and has partially boycotted classes.
The protest, initiated by the students’ union at the Administrative Block, has gained support from all departments and student organizations.
As a result, the university’s administrative offices, canteen, and several departments are partially closed, and bus services have been suspended.
Students are calling for a 50% reduction in late fees, the immediate elimination of examination fees, the removal of the Rs5,000 re-admission fee, and urgent repairs to deteriorating buses, as well as improvements to classroom conditions.
Protesters have pledged to continue their demonstrations until their demands are met, highlighting ongoing issues related to high fees, poor facilities, and transportation problems.
Earlier, protesters alleged that Vice Chancellor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi had halted the operation of transport points, forcing students to find alternative ways home.
Student leaders have formally submitted their list of demands to the Vice-Chancellor. Following negotiations, the students’ organization announced that Dr. Iraqi had agreed to partially accept some of their requests.
