Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced that Karachi, previously listed as the world’s sixth most dangerous city, has now become peaceful.
Speaking to participants of the National Security and War Course 2025, CM Murad highlighted that extremism and terrorism in the 1990s led to significant unrest in Pakistan. However, through a coordinated strategy, the Sindh government has successfully restored peace and stability in the city, which is now seen as a developing urban center.
The Sindh Police, with a force of 120,000, plays a crucial role in maintaining law and order. CM Murad noted that Karachi is not only the sixth-largest city in the world but also Pakistan’s largest commercial hub. The Sindh Police is responsible for ensuring peace from the Thar Desert to the Indus River region.
To bolster the police force, the Sindh government has upgraded the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and the Special Branch, and launched the Sindh Safe City Project. An advanced facial and license plate recognition system, known as the S4 system, has been implemented at 40 toll plazas. Additionally, the budget for investigations has increased, with police stations receiving a direct allocation of Rs4.8 billion.

The Sindh government has taken extensive measures to combat terrorism and extremism, fostering collaboration and information-sharing among law enforcement agencies while also promoting social connections to enhance peace. Efforts are being made to improve infrastructure and social services in Kacha to stabilize the region, with the Sindh Police being equipped with modern technology.
Earlier, CM Murad reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling the challenges facing Karachi and working to alleviate public concerns.
