The Sindh government, in partnership with the World Bank, plans to distribute 200,000 solar panels in August as part of its efforts to provide affordable electricity to the province.
Energy Minister Nasir Shah stated that the government aims to introduce a policy for cheaper electricity supply and is considering offering 300 free units of electricity, pending cooperation from the federal government.
The provincial government has allocated funds for 500,000 solar panels in its budget, which can power a fan and three bulbs each. Additionally, the government is in talks with banks to provide more solar panels, with the provincial government covering the interest on bank loans.
Minister Shah emphasized that the People’s Party’s vision is to provide cheaper electricity to the people, with plans to launch solar parks and e-bike initiatives.
He questioned the logic of imposing taxes on solar energy, highlighting the shift towards solar power due to increasing grid electricity prices. The Sindh government is actively working on projects to provide inexpensive energy solutions.
