
Karachi is facing a concerning increase in respiratory diseases, according to a report by the Sindh Health Department released on Monday.
The department’s data highlights a significant surge in respiratory illnesses, with 248 cases recorded up to February 13 of this year. The majority of these cases, 119, were related to H1N1 influenza, which was reported in hospitals across the city.
Of the total cases, 99 were documented in private hospitals, while 20 were reported at Dow University Hospital. Additionally, 95 cases of Influenza A and B were confirmed.
The report also revealed 8 cases of the coronavirus, 15 cases of Rhinovirus, and 2 cases of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).
Health experts are advising citizens to take precautions, including wearing facemasks and frequently washing hands to prevent the spread of the influenza virus, which is highly contagious.
Those infected are encouraged to remain at home for at least 24 hours, limit contact with others, and avoid travel. The Sindh Health Department has also recommended vaccination against influenza, emphasizing that it is the most effective measure for protection.
