Coldplay’s lead singer, Chris Martin, recently earned widespread admiration on social media for inviting a Pakistani fan onstage during their Abu Dhabi concert and dedicating the song ‘Everglow’ to those affected by conflicts in Palestine and other regions.
The British rock band performed in Abu Dhabi on January 9, marking their first UAE appearance since their electrifying show at Expo 2020 Dubai. Amidst the energetic crowd, Martin noticed a female fan, Kinza, holding a sign that read, “I traveled 10,000 km for this.” Inviting her onstage, he asked where she was from, and she replied, “Pakistan.”
Martin humorously remarked about his own journey from Los Angeles, where “everything was on fire,” and then addressed the audience: “Maybe we can sing this song for your brothers and sisters in Pakistan, in Iran, and in the West Bank and Gaza.” Amid thunderous applause, the band performed ‘Everglow,’ creating a poignant moment for fans.
Coldplay, renowned as one of the most influential pop-rock bands since the late ‘90s, has a legacy of chart-topping hits like ‘Yellow’ (2001), ‘Viva La Vida’ (2008), and ‘Something Just Like This’ (2017). Their Abu Dhabi concert was a stunning visual and auditory experience, featuring glowing wristbands synced with the music, bursts of confetti, illuminated planets suspended in the stadium, and balloons floating above the crowd.
The band is set to perform again in Abu Dhabi today, January 14.
