An anti-terrorism court in Islamabad has granted bail to Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. Judge Abul Hasanat Zulqarnain approved their bail requests, requiring surety bonds of Rs20,000 each.
The sisters were arrested on October 4 in connection with a case filed at Kohsar Police Station during PTI protests. Earlier this month, Islamabad police apprehended Aleema and Uzma at D-Chowk, where they had joined a demonstration organized by PTI supporters. Following their arrest, they were taken to the Secretariat police station.
Initially, an anti-terrorism court remanded the sisters into police custody for further physical remand after a one-day remand following their arrest. They were presented in court after completing this remand, with the case being heard by Judge Tahir Abbas Supra under terrorism charges.
During the court proceedings, the judge instructed all unrelated individuals to leave the courtroom before PTI lawyer Niazullah Niazi began his arguments. Niazi informed the court that they had received a copy of the First Information Report (FIR) via WhatsApp just a day prior. He argued that the arrests of Aleema and Uzma on October 4 were unlawful, as they were not presented in court until October 6, declaring, “This arrest has become illegal.”
