
President Asif Ali Zardari has called for separate sessions of the National Assembly and Senate today (Thursday) to seek approval for proposed constitutional amendments aimed at establishing a Federal Constitutional Court.
According to a statement from the President’s Secretariat Press Wing, the National Assembly session is set for October 17 at 4:00 PM, while the Senate will meet earlier at 3:00 PM on the same day.
President Zardari has summoned these parliamentary sessions in line with Article 54 (1) of the Constitution of Pakistan.
Members of the National Assembly and Senate from the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have been instructed to ensure their attendance.
In the meantime, the PPP and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) have reached an agreement on a draft for the proposed constitutional amendments and plan to meet with PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif soon to seek a broader consensus on the changes.
