Iftikhar Ahmed Sheikh, President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the deadline for income tax return submissions by one month.
He highlighted that taxpayers are experiencing challenges in filing their income tax returns, citing issues with the FBR’s online submission portal, which is reportedly malfunctioning. Sheikh noted that many users have complained about slow performance and inaccessibility, especially during this critical filing period. He emphasized the need to enhance the FBR system’s capacity to alleviate the difficulties faced by taxpayers.
Sheikh pointed out that while the government is implementing strict measures against non-filers, the inefficiencies of the FBR are preventing people from completing their filings. He stressed the necessity for simplifying the return filing process.
He expressed concerns that the slowness and complexity of the system discourage individuals from filing their returns, and added that the entire business community is currently preoccupied with the elections for trade bodies this month.
