A giant vegetable enthusiast from Iowa has set a world record by harvesting an eggplant weighing an impressive 8.33 pounds.
Dave Bennett from Davis County had the record-breaking eggplant verified by Inspector Ivan Hankins of the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship’s Iowa Weights and Measures Bureau, who confirmed it as the largest eggplant in the world.
Bennett, who has been growing eggplants for about five years, previously set the state record with a 5.6-pound eggplant two years ago. He informed Radio Iowa that Guinness World Records has approved his application for the new record. The previous record, set in England in 2022, was 7.21 pounds.
Bennett looks forward to receiving a plaque recognizing his achievement as the grower of the world’s largest eggplant.
