SAHIWAL, Pakistan — In the bustling markets of eastern Punjab, a local food vendor who bears a striking resemblance to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump is drawing crowds and boosting his business.
Saleem Bagga, 53, fondly referred to as “Trump” by locals, is known for selling kheer (a traditional pudding) while singing to attract customers. “It feels like Trump himself has come here to sell pudding,” said Mohammad Yaseen, a resident who prefers buying from Bagga. “When he sings, we can’t resist coming to him.”
Dressed in a beige shalwar kameez paired with a black jacket for warmth, Bagga pushes his brightly decorated wooden cart through the streets. His distinctive blond quiff, a result of his albinism, adds to his Trump-like appearance.
Singing a Punjabi tune, Bagga’s lyrics include: “Now you come down to me, my love, don’t delay, my eyes are tired of waiting.” The performance gathers onlookers, many of whom stop for selfies. “His kheer is delicious,” said Imran Ashraf, a customer. “We take pictures with him and tell our friends we’ve met Trump.”
Unbothered by the constant attention, Bagga takes pride in his unique fame. “People take selfies because I look like Donald Trump. It makes me happy,” he said. Bagga even extended an invitation to the real Trump: “Donald Trump sahib, you’ve won the election. Come visit and try my kheer—you’ll love it.”
