In a bizarre and tragic incident, a man in Indonesia allegedly stabbed his friend to death during a heated argument over the classic philosophical riddle: which came first, the chicken or the egg?
The suspect, identified as DR, attacked Kadir Markus, 47, from Muna Regency in Southeast Sulawesi province, stabbing him 15 times on July 24, according to investigating officer La Ode Arsangka.
Local media reported that Markus had visited DR to repay a debt. DR invited him for a drink and began posing a series of riddles. The argument escalated when the discussion turned to the chicken-or-egg question, prompting Markus to leave. DR, however, pursued him on a bike and then on foot, ultimately stabbing him multiple times with a dagger, police said.
The suspect has been arrested, Tongkuno police chief Iptu Abdul Hasan told the Straits Times. “The suspect has been charged with murder and faces up to 18 years in prison if convicted,” Mr. Hasan said.
DR reportedly used a badik, a traditional dagger of southern Sulawesi’s coastal tribes, including the Bugis and the Makassarese, to commit the murder.
