Pakistan Achieves Historic ODI Series Win in South Africa
Pakistan secured a commanding 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series against South Africa, clinching a historic third series victory on South African soil. This milestone makes Pakistan the first team in the 21st century to achieve three ODI series wins in South Africa, with triumphs in 2013, 2021, and 2024.
Of the seven bilateral series Pakistan has played in South Africa, they have now won three. Only Australia has matched this feat, with three series wins in South Africa achieved in 1997, 2002, and 2011.
Skipper Mohammad Rizwan credited the series win to a collective team effort. “Everyone contributed. Myself and Babar laid the foundation, and Kamran Ghulam’s explosive hitting took us beyond expectations to 329 runs,” he said, joking about Kamran exceeding his trust with his brilliant performance.
Kamran Ghulam, named Player of the Match, expressed his joy, stating, “I’m happy to have delivered in a crucial game. The team has been performing well, and I’m proud to contribute.”
The bowlers also shone, restricting South Africa’s batters and ensuring an 81-run victory. The final ODI is set for Sunday, December 22, in Johannesburg, where Pakistan aims for a clean sweep.
PCB Chairman Praises Team’s Performance
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi congratulated the team for their remarkable performance and teamwork, particularly lauding Rizwan, Babar, and Kamran for their standout contributions. He expressed hope for continued success in the upcoming Champions Trophy.
Klaasen Fined for ICC Code of Conduct Breach
South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen was fined 15% of his match fee and received a demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct by kicking the stumps in frustration after his dismissal. Klaasen accepted the penalty, avoiding a formal hearing.
With the series win secured, Pakistan is eyeing a sweep, while South Africa will seek redemption in the final match.
