The University of Karachi has conferred an honorary doctorate degree (honoris causa) upon the esteemed Islamic scholar Dr. Zakir Naik during a special convocation ceremony held at the Sindh Governor’s House.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, who also serves as the chancellor of KU, presented the honorary degree, highlighting it as a recognition of Dr. Naik’s significant contributions to Islam.
This event aligns with Dr. Naik’s visit to Pakistan as a state guest, invited by the government. He will remain in the country until October 28, during which he is scheduled to hold public gatherings in various cities.
In addition to meeting senior officials, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Dr. Naik has already addressed gatherings in Karachi and is set to speak in Lahore on October 12-13 and in Islamabad on October 19-20.
During the ceremony, Governor Tessori noted Dr. Naik’s successful engagement in various debates on Islamic topics and expressed hope that he would continue his dedication to preaching Islam.
The ceremony was attended by consul generals from different countries, the chairman of the Sindh Higher Education Commission, Dr. Tariq Rafi, KU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Khalid Iraqi, Mufi Abdul Rahim, deans, and senior faculty members.
The honorary doctorate was approved following a special meeting of the University of Karachi’s Syndicate, which granted the degree in the faculty of Islamic Studies, as stated by the university.
