YouTuber Saad Ur Rehman, popularly known as Ducky Bhai, and his wife Aroob Jatoi were detained by the CIA police in Lahore’s Model Town on Tuesday night after they displayed a weapon in a social media vlog.
They were released after removing the content, with no charges filed against them.
Ducky Bhai and his wife have not commented on the incident.
With over eight million subscribers on YouTube, Ducky Bhai is a prominent vlogger and also operates a gaming channel, Ducky Extra, which has more than two million followers. He has been involved in various controversies, including a Twitter spat in August 2020 with a woman who draped a Pakistani flag over her dog, yet he continues to enjoy a strong fanbase. In November 2021, he was awarded YouTuber of the Year at the Pakistan International Screen Awards (PISA).
This incident follows a directive from Punjab Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar, who called for stringent legal action against individuals displaying weapons on social media or engaging in celebratory gunfire. The IG stressed that those featuring weapons in TikTok videos should face prosecution without discrimination in a statement issued on August 8.
Ducky Bhai is not the first person to be arrested for showcasing weapons online. According to Dawn, a man was detained in 2022 for displaying firearms on social media.
On the directives of District Police Officer Ahmad Nawaz Shah, the Saddar police had previously arrested Muhammad Shahroz, a well-known TikTok figure, for posting a video that featured illegal weapons.
